Mischa Gabowitsch (*1977) is a sociologist and historian who works at the Einstein Forum in Potsdam. Born in Moscow, he grew up stateless near the Franco-German border and has since lived in and/or visited every country in Europe. A graduate of Oxford University, he holds a doctoral degree from the Ecole des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris and is a past fellow of the Princeton University Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts. In addition to books in German and Russian, he is the author of Protest in Putin’s Russia (Polity, 2016) and the editor of Replicating Atonement: Foreign Models in the Commemoration of Atrocities (forthcoming from Palgrave). He is currently working on a history of Soviet war memorials.
