Jan-Hendrik Kamlage is a post-doc and coordinator of the research field "Culture of Participation" at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen. He has a background in political science and obtained a PhD at the International Graduate School for Social Sciences Bremen (BIGSS). Previously, he worked as parliamentary assistant in a regional parliament in Germany. Since 2016 he has been heading a social movement organisation called SFD in the field of volunteerism. He is interested to know under what conditions transnational democracy can work in Europe and to what extent face-to-face participation might support this endeavour.
